About the Jo
Who We Are
An official member of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools, Josephinum Academy is an academically rigorous, Catholic, single sex, college preparatory high school for promising young women of Chicago. We are a multicultural, values-based community that strives to empower young women to become leaders by nurturing their talents and motivating them to make a difference. Josephinum was founded in the Wicker Park neighborhood in 1890, where it still stands today to serve young women of Chicago.
As a Sacred Heart School, our educational philosophy is guided by the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education: to educate to a personal and active faith in God, a deep respect for intellectual values, a social awareness which impels to action, the building of community as a Christian value, and personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom.
What We Offer
Josephinum’s academic program is designed to fully prepare students for college with an emphasis on critical thinking, analysis, and writing skills. We have a talented and committed faculty, of whom more than two-thirds hold advanced degrees. Small average class sizes of 13-16 students enable our teachers to pay careful attention to students’ individual interests and learning styles. Students benefit from a single-sex environment that is safe for intellectual exploration and offers greater opportunities for leadership. Josephinum offers advanced classes in English and Math, as well as AP English, AP Spanish, AP Calculus, and AP Biology. Our curriculum is relevant and incorporates issues of gender, race, and social justice.
We strive to make our quality program accessible with a low tuition and an outstanding financial aid and scholarship program.
Accreditations
As well as being a member of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools, Josephinum is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and is recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education and National Honor Society.
