Josephinum Academy

Community Service

Josephinum's community service program enables students to develop their own ministry, applying Christian values, personal faith, leadership skills, and classroom knowledge to the real world. Students experience social justice in action. They broaden their hearts and minds as they connect with members of the community and the world at large.

Students are required to perform 20 hours per year of community service. We partner with several not-for-profit organizations to offer community service programs locally and around the country. Each summer, Josephinum students travel across the country to places like Seattle, Arizona, Michigan, Miami, New York, New Jersey, and Kansas with the Network of Sacred Heart Schools Summer Service Projects. In January 2008, six students traveled to the New Hampshire Primary with the Elections in Action program of Mikva Challenge. As part of the junior curriculum, students do additional service hours through the Issues to Action program of Mikva Challenge. In this program they join over 1,000 other high school students to engage in civic action projects. Students follow a six-step process that begins with analyzing their community and identifying an issue, and ends with the creation and implementation of an action plan. This program empowers students with the opportunity and skills to make positive changes in their community.
