Freshman Academy is a course unique to Josephinum designed to help freshman transition into high school. Ninth grade can be very challenging as students struggle to take on a course load greater than what they were accustomed to in grade school. A strong performance during freshman year can make all the difference to set students on a path to success for the rest of their high school career.
Academy is a structured time when students have the opportunity to begin their homework, gain access to technology, and seek assistance from teachers and peers. Their Academy moderator is there to offer tutoring and mentoring. Moderators also teach students lessons on the skills that are crucial to succeeding in high school, including skills in studying, organization, and time management. Academy provides an environment conducive to quiet, focused study, something students may struggle to find outside of school.
