Food Deserts Day 4

Wednesday started off with a late wake up. Once chores were done, everyone gathered upstairs for some breakfast quesadillas. An alumna from Josephinum, Ashley Galvan '16, came and spoke to us about Logan Square. This area if one of many in Chicago that has issues with gentrification and the rising costs of basic necessities in neighborhoods that once belonged to lower income families.
We then took two buses to Logan Square to shop for our dinner. We bought pasta, pesto, and marinara sauce for our $20 meal. After a trip to Tony's, we got a sweet treat at Margie's Ice Cream, which was definitely a fan favorite. We then walked back to Josephinum for some down time before our next adventure.
We ate a quick lunch and went to Back of the Yards to explore "The Plant." We received a tour of this sustainable business collaborative and learned about circular economies. After learning about "The Plant" we returned to Josephinum and cooked our delicious pasta meal. After our meal we left for the Greater Chicago Food Depository to see where all of the food comes from. We jammed to 80s music and bagged sweet potatoes and apples. After a long day of work, we came home and made cookies for dessert. It was a busy, but fun day.
