Digital Learning at the Jo!

What is Digital Learning at the jo?

Josephinum Academy of the Sacred Heart is committed to providing an engaging and relevant educational program that meets the needs of 21st century learners. Digital learning (often referred to as e-learning or remote learning) allows us to promote and support the integration of technology across our curriculum. As a one-to-one computing school, digital learning enables us to utilize the internet and web-based applications to support lessons provided by our teacher’s either in-person or remotely in nearly every subject area. By doing this, Josephinum graduates have the core skills and competencies needed to successfully navigate the digital world, along with a moral compass that guides their ethical use of technology.

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Josephinum has temporarily closed it’s building to ensure the safety of our students, families, and team members. Although the building is temporarily closed, our faculty and staff are dedicated to continuing to provide our students with the rigorous educational experience necessary to prepare them for college and life. Beginning on March 16, 2020, Josephinum students have utilized our digital learning remote platforms to complete lessons, interact with teachers, and collaborate with their peers.

We are extremely grateful to our students, families, and team members for their resilience and creativity during this difficult time. As you are aware, the COVID-19 situation is constantly evolving. With that in mind, we will continue to communicate information regarding our building closure as new city and statewide decisions are announced. For our latest COVID-19 announcement please visit Please see below important digital learning updates and resources.

  • Extended building closure - In accordance with the state mandate closing all school buildings through the end of the school year, Josephinum will be continuing with Digital Learning through June 9th (May 22nd for Seniors).
  • Schedule adjustment – To better support our students and deliver a quality learning environment during this challenging time, we are moving to a 4-day-a-week class schedule with every Monday dedicated to one-on-one conferences between students as teachers as needed. Please see the Daily Planner for a few exceptions.
  • Grading adjustment - In order to minimize the social emotional impact that being quarantined for such a long time will have on our students we have moved to flexible grading in order to help them maintain success. Please read the Flexible Grading overview to learn more about these important changes.
  • Big Shoulders meal program – While not directly tied to Digital Learning, we are excited to be a part of a Big Shoulders Initiative pairing local businesses with families to provide food to families. Please fill out the attached form if you would be interested in being provided a meal. All meals would be picked up at Josephinum Academy during lunch time. More details to follow. If you are interested in receiving a free fresh meal, but cannot get to Josephinum for pick-up, please contact Principal Schrantz at to identify a more convenient pick-up location.
