2019 Season Highlights

The Josephinum Academy girl's Varsity volleyball team has wrapped up its outstanding season, finishing with a 9-4 overall record during the regular season. Following the regular season we lost in the second round of the Chicago Prep Conference tournament. After the conference tournament we made it to the semi final round of the IHSA State playoffs. Overall season record was 10-6.

The team opened their season strong with 4 consecutive wins defeating Golder, Ellison, Cristo Rey, and Christ the King. The team went on to play Holy Trinity and experienced their first loss of the season. The Cougars also experienced 3 more losses being defeated against Northtown, Hope, and Walther Christian. Adjusting the teams defense, due to the minor set back, helped tremendously. They went on to finish the season strong with a 5 win streak defeating Rochell Zell, Noble, Providence St. Mel, Our Lady of Tepeyac, and an impressive victory over Intrinsic.

The Josephinum Cougars were seeded #6 in the Chicago Prep conference and #3 in the state regionals class 2A. Although the team did not advance in any of the finals, they had an incredible overall season.

Junior Varsity

The Josephinum 2019 Junior Varsity Volleyball team had an unbelievable season! With a winning mix of 5 Juniors, 5 Sophomores, 4 Freshmen and a brand new “rookie” coach, they dominated the regular season finishing FIRST in their conference with an 11-2 record! During the season they beat every team in the conference and won every single home game! They had a 15 game winning streak during which they won 30 out of 34 sets.

We had not only a great team of hard-working young women, but a great parent community coming out to support the Cougars at every game! The team motto was "hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard." Every player contributed to the team success with their work ethic and motivation throughout the season. With a 2 year record of 26-5, we can’t wait for the 2020 season!
