With the recent acquisition of our school building, Josephinum Academy of the Sacred Heart embarked on an exciting next chapter of our academy’s story which ensures our mission continues for another 135 years. With this policy, we commit to the long-term sustainability of the school which includes the environmental, social, economic and governance activities of the school.
This policy is primarily directed to the school’s environmental commitments and aligns with the social, economic and governance activities. We believe that the Jo has both the obligation and the opportunity to show leadership in sustainable practices.
We are guided by the Sacred Heart Goals and Criteria, including;
Goal 3 – 4. All members of the school community accept accountability for the care of God’s creation, practice effective stewardship of the earth’s resources and work to alleviate the climate crisis.
We are also inspired by the Catholic Church’s teaching which includes Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato Si and Pope Leo XIV commitments for the care of our common home.
We see our sustainability commitment as part of a journey. A journey started 135 years ago and requires continuous review and attention.

We are committed to continuous improvement and will regularly review and update our sustainability practices to ensure we meet our goals.
